The extension from Schlachthausgasse to Stadion U2 station has been in operation since 5 September 2026. The new route is 3.1 kilometres long. The project also created around 2,150 metres of cycle paths, more than 10,000 square metres of greenery and 200 new trees.
The new extension is open; the district allocation concerns the extension, not the whole of line 18.
A neighbourhood with around 1,900 apartments, commercial space, local amenities and educational institutions is being created on more than eleven hectares. The area is being designed to be car-free and cycle-friendly. The city continues to list the project as being implemented.
The published target date of 2026 is not used as proof of overall completion. According to GB*, the first apartments were handed over in 2025.
